I’m on a Mission… I WANNA REVIEW THEM ALL!

Okay, so with the title of this post, you can infer that this has to do with reviewing… but how?

I’ll tell you how: when book bloggers ultimately choose to read and review their books, there’s always these two periods that I chose to call: before blogging (BB) and after (AB). These two periods are completely different between each other.

Before Blogging:

  • I used to rate all the books that I “liked” 5 stars.
  • If I rated the first book in a series 5 stars, then all of the other books HAD to be 5 star books too. How could they not?
  • EVERY BOOK written by my favorite author had 5 stars.
  • I never took into consideration little aspects like: character development, characters, or even pacing.

After Blogging:

  • My rating system is now much more precise; I’m not so liberal with 5 stars as I was before.
  • I’ve realized that yes, I CAN hate the first book in the series, and love the rest, or I could love the first one and hate the rest (much like what hapenned with The Giver Quartet  for me)
  • I’ve realized that we can’t put authors up on pedestals. They’re as human as we are, thus prone to mistakes. I’ve learned to read and review much more carefully, forgetting about the person whose name is on the cover, and focusing more on the story.
  • This one is actually the most important one for me; how could I have not realized that when I hated half of the book, but loved half, that maybe it wasn’t as perfect as I thought? Why was it that even if I was forcing myself to read it, I still gave it 5 stars? I was really liberal giving out 5 stars, and even though I still tend to give them out, I know question myself before giving a rating.

Okay, so what is my mission? My mission, should I choose to accept it, is very simple:  read all those books that occured BB and review them again! Seems fairly easy, right?

Well, considering all the ARC’s I have to review, and the stacks of books that I’ve bought waiting yet to be read, well… It’s definitely going to be troublesome.

But, I’m really really want to do this, and I hope to start it soon!

Wish me luck!

  1. I know exactly what you mean. BB I gave out 5 stars like nobody’s business. Now, after blogging for over a year, I’m much more selective on what I rate a book.

I would love to go back and read/review/rate books that I read BB, and hopefully someday I will be able too 🙂

I wish you luck with your mission!
