Goodreads Summary:
I’ve lost it. 😦 The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive 🙂 !!
Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!
Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.
What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.
I honestly did not know what the big deal was with this book, but after Jennifer telling me how wonderful it was, I gave it a try. I can’t believe I hadn’t read this book sooner!
This book has everything you’re looking for in a chick-lit book: there’s romance (and lots of it!), humor, feels, family conflict, and actual substance. I couldn’t put this book down.
Poppy Wyatt is a mess. She really tries to help, but in the end always messes things up a little bit more. It’s hilarious and dreadful to watch at the same time. We feel secondhand embarrassment for her, we feel for her, because Poppy is completely human. She’s flawed yes, but flawed in a way that we don’t mind it at all.
I have found my book boyfriend, and his name is Sam Roxton. Sam is at first this unattainable and closed off guy, but as we get to know him, he becomes so much more. I agree with Jennifer, Henry Cavill can definitely be cast as Sam! I love Sam because he’s so kind and swoony and just so overall steadfast in what he wants. He stole my heart!
“Lover? I don’t know. I don’t know if she loves me. I don’t know if I love her. All I can say is, she’s the one I think about. All the time. She’s the voice I want to hear. She’s the face I hope to see.”
The narrator for this audiobook made my reading experience 1000 times better because she portrayed Poppy in such a quirky way! I laughed so much while hearing this book. She also made the scenes much funnier! I wanted to roll on the floor from laughing so much! I think that she really captured Poppy’s voice to a point where I can’t imagine anyone else being Poppy.
Overall, this is the perfect chick lit book for any person looking for more than just a swoony romance.
